Itchy Dexter

Poor Dexter has become extremely itchy over the last couple days.

I figure it’s probably seasonal allergies. (Yes, they happen in dogs, too. Dogs just express allergies as itchy skin instead of a runny nose and a sore throat.)  I know it isn’t fleas (all the pets get monthly flea prevention and I don’t see fleas or flea dirt on any of them.) It could be food allergies or environmental allergies. Since environmental are easier to deal with, we’re going to try that first.

He’s gotten so itchy at this point he’s pulling out fur with his teeth.

So, now he’s in a cone. He doesn’t dig it.

Regardless, he takes his role as guard pup seriously.

My Golden Retriever has allergies too…they are a pain. He rolls all over and itches constantly, even with medication. What a pain allergies are!

Luckily a little bit of prednisone went a long way (this time.) Dexter is cone free after a touch of steroid. Hopefully this doesn’t get worse every season… though, if it does, we can do allergy testing and allergy shots (or drops.)

awww, poor little guy! I called my cat “lampshade” when he had to have one of those collars.

I think poor Dexter would have been mortally offended by the nickname…. so I’ll have to use it next time he wears the cone of shame!

I love how Dexter has his ear positioned. Looks hilarious.
