Having Friends Over

After the washer/dryer debacle, we needed some help moving the old washer out of the space the new washer was going to occupy. Nate invited his friend from work, Blaine, over to help us move the washer and to have dinner, drinks and games with us.

(Nate and I ended up getting the washer out onto the deck ourselves then thought that the delivery guys would help us get it out to the curb on their way out after dropping off the new ones. They didn’t. So, they’re still on the deck. Also, it was POURING that evening, so we wouldn’t have been able to move them with Blaine anyway.)

I made Pretzel Crusted Pan Fried Chicken with Mustard Cheddar Sauce and Bacon Spinach Mashed Potatoes from my Rachel Ray cookbook and crispy green bean fries for dinner. Overall, both dishes were pretty easy to make, although it did generate a lot of dishes! They were also incredibly good! Dinner was a big hit.

Dinner was so good!

After dinner, Blaine helped do the dishes. He is such a good guest! He definitely didn’t have to do that, but I really appreciated it (since dishes are my chore and I would have had to do them all the next day!)

Then, after everything was picked up, we opened Blaine’s new Star Trek deck building card game. It’s one of those games where everybody starts out with the same cards, then each turn you draw a hand from your pile, perform what actions you can, then discard your hand and wait for a new turn. The end condition is to get 400 points, which you get by completing missions or defeating starships. But, you have to work your way up to them by building your deck smart. The guys got super into trying to go fight things in space while I sat back and built up lots of characters (which give you the points you need to start playing other powerful cards to actually successfully fight things in space.) Nate was very proud of himself because he ended up capturing the Enterprise for his ship. But, I won the game!

Nerds! And proud.
